Barriers to the Implementation of Big Data Technology in Education: An Empirical Study

Technology has opened up a variety of ways data can be used for decision-making in different fields of endeavour including education. The purpose of this study was to assess the barriers hindering the implementation of Big Data Technology in education. The study which covered three continents used the quantitative approach where survey questions were distributed the participants through the online survey monkey. Data was categorized in tables and chart and was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Findings revealed that there is an interest in Big Data Technology in the education sector and that Big Data Technology is very important in education. However, most stakeholders are not sure of the technology requirements, and resources are not available for the full implementation.
