Supervisory Control of Discrete-event Systems Modeled by Timed-arc Petri Nets

Supervisory control of discrete-event systems, in which certain time-delays may be present for certain events to start and/or to be completed, is considered. It is shown that timed-arc Petri nets (TAPNs) is a convenient formalism to model such systems. The method of arc stretching is then introduced to ease the representation of the state of a TAPN. A supervisory controller design approach, which uses arc stretching, to avoid deadlock is then proposed. A manufacturing system example is also presented to demonstrate the proposed approach.
