Fuzzy logic based charging of electric vehicles for load management of microgrid

This paper discusses the utilization of plug-in-Hybrid Electrical Vehicle (PHEVs) charging station for supporting a microgrid. The charging and discharging of Electric Vehicles (EVs) without any control will result in to fluctuations in grid voltage. However, with the use of an intelligent control scheme, this charging and discharging of EVs can make the same PHEVs act as distributed energy systems that can provide support to the grid. This work considers five different profiles of PHEVs based on real life situations and proposes a fuzzy logic based control scheme for charging / discharging of the EVs while providing support to the grid for maintaining the load profile. The proposed architecture is supported by a diesel generator to provide a balance between the supply and demand.
