Temperature Dependent Electromagnetic Design of Dielectric Wall for Airborne Applications

This paper presents temperature dependent electro-magnetic design of dielectric wall for application in radomes for high speed airborne platforms. The electromagnetic parameters of dielectric wall are computed using two models. The first model, called the `3 layer model', consists of the inner homogeneous dielectric shell with the outer coatings of the ablative layer and the paint layer. The second model, called the `Inhomogeneous Planar Layer model', takes into account the temperature gradient across the inner shell. Equivalent transmission line method is used to compute the transmission coefficient and insertion phase delay. The temperature dependent thickness optimization of the dielectric wall is performed using both the models. The dielectric wall is analyzed in the low and high velocity modes of operation. The changes in performance due to increased temperatures and resultant ablation of outer layers are predicted.
