Energy Efficient Water Heating using Air Source Heat Pumps

The objective of the project is to save electricity on water heating by means of measuring, verifying the energy consumption, demand and energy cost savings, as well as emission impacts. Calculations for sizing the heat pumps to match the electricity boilers output were conducted. Measured data was captured in Microsoft excel toolkit to calculate the electricity energy savings. These were achieved through replacement of conventional water heating electrical boilers with heat pumps, which is an energy efficient water heating technology at Ben Eden Ben Avon residential complex. The complex consist of 153 apartments at Benmore Gardens, Parkmore. Therefore, the contribution of these paper is to determine the energy savings and achieve Demand Side Management for Eskom, thus, ensuring clients benefit financially through reduced monthly electricity consumption. Furthermore, strain will be reduced from the electricity utility network system. The project is classified as an Energy Efficiency and the targeted equipment is of a 140 kW and 180 kW element water boilers at the Ben Avon Ben Eden residential buildings basement.
