Range-Doppler Sidelobe Suppression for Pulsed Radar Based on Golay Complementary Codes

To mitigate the interference caused by range-Doppler sidelobes in pulsed radar systems, we propose a new method to construct Doppler resilient complementary waveforms from Golay codes. Both the transmit pulse train and the receive pulse weights are optimized, so that the similarity between the pulse weights and a given window function is maximized, and the constraints on multiple high-order Doppler null points and energy are met. This problem is expressed as a 0-1 integer programming problem, and then solved by semidefinite relaxation and randomization techniques. The resulting waveform has range sidelobes that are outright suppressed in multiple flexibly-adjustable Doppler zones, and performs well in the Doppler sidelobe suppression, Doppler resolution and signal-to-noise ratio.
