Compressive behavior of M25 concrete made from Dune Sand in Dubai with medium workability conditions

This paper presents the study about the compressive strength of concrete made by replacing normal sand with dune sand. Dune sand replacement is done in percentages of 0,25,50, 75 and 100%. Compressive strength test was carried out on the 7th, 14

and 28
^th
day. The slump and water cement ratio were observed to increase and then decrease as the percentage of dune sand increased. The weight of coarse aggregates and cement per cube is kept constant. The scope of this paper only covers the compressive strength of concrete cured by ponding method. The compressive strength tests revealed that up to 50% replacement, the compressive strength kept increasing with duration. So, this concrete can be used for structural purposes like slabs and beams. It was observed for 75% and 100% replacement that the strength increased and then decreased with duration making it not recommendable for structural purposes. However, it could be used for roads and pavement construction where frequent repair is possible.
