Research, Design, Manufacture and Quality Improvement of a Digital Magnetic Compass System for Marine Vessels

This paper describes the purpose, new points, practical significance, quality improvement methods, fabrication results and practical testing of Digital magnetic compass systems (DMCS). Many studies on the digital magnetic compasses (DMC) design were carried out recently. In this paper, the authors present the results of manufacturing complete DMCS, in which DMC is designed using two magnetic and positioning sensors. The research and test results show that DMCS is designed and manufactured to a standard and it is possible to install for small vessels or ships operating inland maritime routes of Vietnam. The research results contribute to the problem of equipping compass systems for ships which are either small or unable to equip the modern and expensive Gyrocompass of the world manufacturers.
