Abstract:

The world's ageing population and prevalence of cardiovascular diseases has led to increasing demand for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training in hospitals, as well as among the general public. Noting the limited access to such training resources, a low-cost and wearable solution is proposed. It consists of a mobile application and a wearable unit. During a training session, the trainee wearing the unit on the wrist would perform chest compressions on a training manikin. The unit then senses the trainee's arm motions, and wirelessly sends the data to a mobile phone for offline analysis and storage. The motion data, which includes the compression frequencies and depths, are quantitative information for the trainer to monitor the training progress over time and to give specific recommendations.
