Density Reconstruction Algorithm In Ultrasound Computed Tomography Using Full Waveform Inversion With Source Encoding

This work proposed an algorithm to reconstruct the density distribution of the object in ultrasound computed tomography (UCT) imaging modality. The proposed algorithm combined the full waveform inversion method and source encoding technique to calculate the gradient of the density and estimate the density distribution directly, which have not been achieved in current literature. In the work, a numerical solution of a density distribution is obtained by solving a penalized optimization problem. Meanwhile, it used the full waveform inversion method to consider the high-order acoustic diffraction effects and the source encoding technique to significantly alleviate computational burden. Computer simulation was conducted to demonstrate the proposed method. The results suggested that the proposed method could reconstruct the density distribution directly with only UCT imaging modality.
