RF Energy Harvesting for GSM and Wi-Fi Band

To meet the ever-growing need for sustainable energy resources, abundant radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic (EM) waves kinetic energy could be used for energy harvesting. This paper gives an insight into the conversion of RF-EM waves into DC, which can be utilized further to power up low power devices. The required aim is achieved by designing a Rectenna (rectifier and antenna) matched together for the same band of frequencies. In the design, a new rectifier configuration based on 180⁰ hybrid junction is prospected for the dual-band for GSM (1 GHz) and Wi-Fi (2.45 GHz) both. The dipole antenna and rectifier are designed as dual-band antenna and rectifier for Wi-Fi and GSM band giving an efficiency of 31% and 48%, respectively. To provide the circuit insight into behavior single band antenna and rectifier circuit designs are also explained.
