Effects of Vertical Earthquake Ground Motions on Seismic Response of Steel-Concrete Plate Composite Beam Bridges

Effects of vertical earthquake ground motion on seismic response of steel-concrete plate composite beam bridges are researched. It is shown that the influence of vertical earthquake ground motion on axial force of bridge column and pile is significantly more than shear force and bending moment. Axial force of piles can be obviously decreased when vertical earthquake ground motion is considered so that seismic performance of piles is reduced. Consequently, vertical earthquake ground motion should be selected for seismic response analysis of steel-concrete plate composite beam bridges in near-fault region.
