A Multilayered Transition between SIW and ESIW

A compact multilayered transition between a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and an empty substrate integrated waveguide (ESIW) is proposed in this paper. Complimentary split ring resonator (CSRR) is used to efficiently transfer power from one transmission line to the other through proper matching of impedances and fields between the two lines. The bandwidth for this design at a centre frequency of 7.1 GHz is 300 MHz. This approach may be useful in substrate integrated circuit (SIC) technology.
