Relationship of Economic Growth and CO2 Emissions in the Philippines: An EKC Hypothesis Testing Case Study

This study examined the growth-environment nexus in the Philippines to know if economic growth may help reduce CO
₂
emissions. Results suggest that it is possible if the country reaches a threshold income of around 2,904 billion (in constant 2010 US$). Given the need to peak the country's emissions to promote economic growth, policy makers might consider diversifying the Philippines' current energy portfolio with cleaner options. Energy efficiency policies are also a way to decrease CO
₂
emissions without limiting economic growth.
