The Sources of Salinity Changes in Jiaozhou Bay

Based on the investigation data of Jiaozhou Bay in May and October 1979, the salinity and the distribution of salinity in surface in Jiaozhou Bay were studied. Results showed that in May and October, the variation range of salinity in Jiaozhou Bay water was 31.00-31.80

, and the salinity of sea water was over 31.00

. This showed that in the aspect of salinity change, in May and October, in the whole water area of Jiaozhou Bay, the salinity of water body was relatively high. In May, the variation range of salinity in Jiaozhou Bay was 31.00-31.60

. In Jiaozhou Bay, there are three areas with relatively small salinity changes: the east coastal waters, the north coastal waters, the bay mouth waters and the waters outside the bay. In the east coastal waters, the salinity range was 31.00-31.07

. From May to October, at any time, the evaporation of seawater would increase the salinity of the coastal waters in the north. The amount of fresh water transported by the river determined the rise or fall of salinity in the water area of the river estuary. The salinity transported by the surface currents in the open sea determined the rise or fall of the salinity in Jiaozhou Bay.
