New and Renewable Catalyst Based on Electro-Activated Carbon for Hydrogen Generation

Understanding of the interaction between adsorbants and metal (aluminium) surfaces have led to descriptors for new and renewable catalyst which have a major impact on the design of heterogen catalysts. On hydrogen production based hydrolysis these understandings still lack. It is considered that the necessity of energy fulfillment could be benefited by using the utilization of hydrogen as a new and green energy source. However, the hydrogen production remains a challenge because its complex reaction and unstable production. We propose here a strategy to overcome this challenge using heterogeneous carbon catalyst derived from coconut shell waste to enhance the stability of hydrogen production through the reaction between water and aluminum metal waste on the support of electro-activated carbon (EAC). We show that EAC could enhance the specific surface area to 394.46 m
²
/g with the average pore diameter of 21.9 Å. The implications of the utilization of EAC could enhance the hydrogen production and stabilization. The optimum average hydrogen production rate could reach to 9.19 mL/min/gr. The conclusion is that the EAC catalyst strategy successfully integrates stabilization and production of hydrogen, opening a route to the low-cost integration of hydrogen production.
