A Simulation Study on Sugarcane Truck System for Inbound Logistics Improvement

This paper aims to analyze sugarcane truck system to improve inbound logistics via simulation study. Initially, sugarcane truck system is collected data to analyze receiving sugarcane process for designing alternatives. Traditionally, sugarcane trucks are freedom to unload sugarcane for factory. It affects high waiting time for unloading due to the peak of numbers of sugarcane trucks. In case study, there are distribution center to unload sugar cane. Reserve queuing is recommended to control and manage sugarcane trucks at distribution center. Also, freedom queuing can unload sugarcane at sugar factory. Then, simulation modules are created to trial based on the real data in order to find the best alternative. The results found that a suitable arrival rate between freedom and reserve queuing of sugarcane trucks system is 30:70. This arrival rate can be applied to manage sugarcane trucks at distribution center and sugar factory. During sugar production, the flow of sugarcane trucks are smooth affecting quality of sugar.
