Influence of PWM drive grounding connections on voltage stresses endured by the motor insulation

The higher switching speed of the new generations of electronic power components raises new challenges for designing the Electrical Insulation System (EIS) of machines. The paper propose an analysis of the influence of the drive grounding connections on the short voltage spikes appearing between the neutral point of the winding and the motor frame. These voltage spikes are a part of the voltage stress that the EIS must withstand because these short voltage spikes are transmitted to the windings by the motor common mode capacitances.
