Design and Construction of IPM Synchronous Motor with Magnetic and Mechanical Stress Analysis

In order to analysis and design of the Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), the parameters must be defined according to characteristics of the motor for reduction of leakage magnetic flux. The decrease in the leakage magnetic flux density is made by modifying the rotor with respect to its mechanical stresses. The magnetic flux distribution in the air gap is first analyzed. Then, the rotor is designed by evaluating the developed mathematical model. Two topologies based on placing of the permanent magnet into the rotor, which is placing in parallel and placing in V-shape, are analyzed and designed. Mechanical stress and rotor deformation are studied using Hooke's law. To validate the theoretical results, the motor is constructed and tested.
