The Optimum Autofrettage and Fatigue Prediction Based on Finite-Element Method for High Pressure Cylinder

An autofrettage model of high pressure cylinder was established based on the bilinear kinematic hardening (BKIN) material in which the strain hardening and Bauschinger effect were considered. Theoretical calculations and finite-element results were performed and compared to obtain the optimum autofrettage pressure. These results clearly show good agreement between the two cases with a maximum difference of 3.1%, indicating that the theoretical solution agrees well with the simulation. Based on the stress-life method, a fatigue life prediction of high pressure cylinder was performed by Ncode Designlife software. Results show that autofrettage process increases the minimum fatigue life of high pressure cylinder by 15 times about.
