Improvement of SEP Protocol Based on Energy Consumption and Residual Energy

In order to prolong the service life and improve the performance of wireless sensor networks, this paper proposes an improved routing protocol (RR-SEP) based on the Stable Election Protocol. In the improved protocol, the two factors of node energy consumption and residual energy are considered comprehensively. In the two-level heterogeneous network, the RR-SEP protocol combines the effects of node energy consumption and residual energy with the cluster head election mechanism in the traditional SEP protocol. The comparison between RR-SEP and SEP protocol shows that RR-SEP can balance energy usage better, extend network life cycle, and has better performance in network stability.
