I. Introduction
Proficiently navigating through unseen urban environments is a vital part of daily life for humans, whether it be meeting in a new colleague’s office, making it to the correct gate for a plane in a foreign airport, locating an apartment while on overseas holiday, finding the lion at the zoo, or even finding bananas in a new grocery store. Robots must develop the same navigation abilities which humans exhibit if they are truly become useful co-inhabitants of built environments.
