Assessment of Dielectric Implantable Biomaterials Compatibility Based on the Level of Low-intensity mm-range Signals

this paper is devoted to the investigation of the electromagnetic properties of the materials using for bone and soft tissues regeneration. The results of studies of microwave low-intensity radiation of biomaterials (levels 10–9 – 10–13 W) are considered in the article in order to evaluate their compatibility with the human body. The criteria of biocompatibility are considered, their brief description is made. A new criterion of the biocompatibility is highlighted - the level of microwave radiation and absorption, which characterizes the properties of dielectric biomaterials. The physics of formation and possible influence on the human body of microwave flows when using implants from the studied materials is considered. The results of the experimental investigations, hardware and research methodology are described. Electromagnetic irradiation of the studied materials is compared with irradiation of some parts of the human body. A technique for checking the compatibility of dielectric biomaterials is proposed and recommendations are made for known biomaterials that may be useful for practicing surgeons. In addition, research findings can be used by developers to create new biomaterials more adapted to the human body, based on known biomaterials or to work-out new dielectric materials for practical medicine.
