Performance Analysis of a Novel Linear Switched Reluctance Motor with Transverse-Flux and Four-Sided Structure

The article presents a three-phase, transverse-flux, and four-sided linear switched reluctance motor (FSLSRM). The motor topology is extensively explained. Moreover, the design considerations and effects of the motor dimensions on the output thrust are considerably investigated. Based on the results of the design evaluation, the proposed motor is simulated using a three-dimensional (3-D) finite element analysis (FEA). Through the FEA simulations, the magnetic flux density vectors and static features of the FSLSRM are achieved. In order to examine the dynamic operation of the motor, a three-phase asymmetric inverter is utilized to drive the FSLSRM. The proposed motor performance is studied under both single-pulse control (SPC) and current-chopping control (CCC) strategies. The results indicate that a significant improvement in the output thrust and efficiency is obtained in comparison to the classical transverse-flux LSRMs.
