Write equalization in future tape channels

The characteristics of advanced write- and nonequalized tape channels have been modeled and evaluated to investigate the impact of the equalization on future tape channels, realizing that several factors regarding write-equalization (WE) should be taken into account. It is found that the use of WE can improve nonlinear distortion in the write process and reduce read-equalizer requirements even for media with a moment (M/sub R//spl delta/) as low as 1 memu/cm/sup 2/, and may therefore continue to offer advantages to future thin metal-particle tape systems.
