Sectorial T-shaped Dipole Antenna Array for Ku-band Satellite Communication Integrated with Compact Inverted-F GPS antenna

This paper presents a sectorial antenna array design aiming to enhance the total energy efficiency of the Ku-band satellite communication system in the frequency segment of 14.5 GHz-15 GHz, which would be integrated into the compact electrical device as the tag for the global small animal tracking. A semi-sphere coverage is realized by dividing the space into six sections, in each of which a radiation pattern with the peak gain of 7.1 dBi and HPBW of 62° in E-plane and 86° in H-plane is experimentally achieved by feeding at two antenna elements. Besides, a compact inverted-F antenna for GPS L1 Band with the central frequency of 1575.42 MHz is designed, and integrated into the interval between the sections of the sectorial antenna array. The radiation arm of the inverted-F is spiralled to 0.024 λ0_gps × 0.05 λ0_gps (λ0: free space wavelength) to fit into the limited space. An omnidirectional pattern with 1 dBi realized gain derived from simulated results shows a desired radiation efficiency. The proposed designs are verified by simulations and measurements delivering a good agreement.
