Optimal Route Planning by Genetic Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks

In this paper, we propose a novel optimization algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for minimum energy consumption by optimal route planning technique. Since WSNs are application centric and are prone to failure, they can be deployed for data gathering, transmitting and receiving. Particularly, sensor nodes possesses ability to gather the data from intermediate vicinity and forward it towards the sink. Therefore, the route planning is needed for efficient reception of the data. For the sake of route planning, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is suggested with some modification in its key operators. We formulate the route planning in two methods namely to determine the all paths from source sensor node towards the sink node. Second, to optimize the route among all possible routes. The simulation results will be carried out with the help of MATLAB 2019b platform. The results will, further, be simulated by significant number of sensor nodes with single sink deployment. All results will be compared with existing standard algorithm.
