Influence of CQD Modified Silica Nano Fillers on PD Characteristics of Transformer Oil

The work is done to study the partial discharge characteristics of mineral oil based nanofluid made by the addition of surface modified SiO
₂
nanoparticles with Carbon Quantum Dots (CQD). The nanofluid of 0.05 %wt mass ratio of mineral oil is prepared in the laboratory. The partial discharge characteristics were studied and analyzed for PD magnitude, inception voltage, raise time, maximum peak amplitude, phase resolved partial discharge pattern, time and frequency plots of PD signals. All the tests were done under IEC standards. The results of CQD nanofluids are compared with commercially available mineral oil which is used as the base oil for nanofluids and SiO
₂
nanofluid of mineral oil. The CQD nanofluid results showed reduced PD amplitude, pulse duration, repetition rate and time length when compared with the virgin mineral oil and silica added mineral oil.
