Development of Robust, Efficient Control and State Estimation Strategy for the Photovoltaic System using Nonlinear Backstepping Controller

The purpose of this study is to develop a robust, efficient control and a state estimation strategy for the photovoltaic system connected to the resistive load through a boost converter. This work focuses on improving the performance of the standalone photovoltaic system, by using a nonlinear control algorithm. The proposed MPPT control has two objectives: (i) Constructing the optimal PV voltage reference based on a regression plane of the considered PV array, (ii) Extracting the maximum power from this PV array in the presence of various climatic conditions; namely: solar irradiance and temperature. To meet these objectives, a nonlinear controller is designed using the Backstepping technique. A formal analysis using the Lyapunov stability exhibits that the designed controller can extract the optimal PV power. Numerical simulations are performed to highlight the tracking performances compared to a conventional MPPT control (Perturb and Observe).
