A Hexagonal-Shaped Microstrip Patch Antenna with notch included partial ground plane for 2.45 GHz Wi-Fi Band RF Energy Harvesting Applications

In this paper, a compact microstrip patch antenna with hexagonal-shaped radiator microstrip patch is introduced at 2.45 GHz Wi-Fi band for radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting applications. The antenna is designed on a low-cost 1.6 mm thick epoxy-FR4 substrate. Microstrip feeding technique is used for energizing the antenna. A partial ground plane is introduced at the backside of the radiating element to achieve resonance at the desired frequency. A notch in the ground plane enhances the impedance bandwidth further. The proposed antenna occupies a dimension of 100×100×1.6 mm³, and provides a maximum gain of 6.14 dBi.
