Analysis of Environmental Impact of Gaseous Pathway Released from Hypothetical NPP Site in Sudan

This study aims to assess the radiation environmental impact of transport and dispersion of airborne radioactive material under the conditions of normal operation of a hypothetical Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Sudan, using two types of reactor unit (HL1000 and CNP650 PWR unit) in order to choose the suitable unit type, also the annual effective doses to public have been assessed for both reactor types. In order to achieve these assessments two atmospheric dispersion models have been applied (ROULEA-2.0 and XOQDOQ). The input of these models where metrological data for one year from the geographical site north Port Sudan, source terms and physical parameters from the point of release. The results showed that both types of reactors have no significant environmental impact under normal operating conditions and using two units of CNP650 will have less effect. The annual effective dose for various age group was significantly below the ICRP dose limit. The future work would be to study the environmental impact of liquid pathway release of the NPP as well as the accident conditions.
