An IGI-FLL Controlled PV system with Power Filtering Capabilities under Distorted Grid Conditions

This paper presents a double-stage grid-tied solar photovoltaic system with active power filtering capabilities controlled by an improved generalized integrator – frequency locked loop algorithm. The system not only feeds maximum extracted PV (Photovoltaic) array power to the grid, it also performs power factor correction (PFC), harmonics suppression and load balancing at the point of common coupling (PCC) under distorted grid conditions when operating in unity power factor (UPF) mode. The total harmonic distortions of the grid currents at the PCC are as per IEEE-519 standard. The response of the system is modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and also implemented for a variety of test cases on a prototype developed in the laboratory.
