Fault-Tolerant Routing protocol for Ad Hoc Networks

Wireless Ad Hoc networks are faulty networks because they are usually deployed in harsh environment. So, routing protocols in Ad Hoc networks must be fault aware to reduce loosing data because of link or node failure. A fault- tolerant routing is a robust mechanism that allows routing protocols to react to failures that might occur in the network. Most importantly, they allow the network to continue to operate as expected without failures.In this paper, we propose a fault tolerant hop count based routing protocol (F-Hopcount) for WSNs that is able to cope with random node failures with very little impacting on the overall network performances. We evaluated our proposal using Cooja simulator and compared it to the standard hop count rountig protocol. Results show that our contribution supports node failures very well in the studied scenarios with very little impact on the network performances.
