The specific membrane capacitance quantification of clinical BPH and BPH with inflammation cells using optically-induced eletrokinetics

The specific membrane capacitance (SMC) of cells, correlated with the cellular dielectric parameters and morphology of the plasma membrane, has been widely studied as a label-free marker for determining cell's state. However, the SMC values of clinical benign prostatic hyperplasia cells (BPH) and benign prostatic hyperplasia with chronic inflammation cells (BPHCI) has not been studied. In this study, the SMC values of two types of cells were measured using optically-induced dielectrophoresis. The measured results shows that BPHCI (n=211) has a higher SMC (37.34 ± 7.95mF/m

) than BPH (n=234). The results suggest that SMC value is a potential marker for indicating inflammation.
