Analysis and Operation of a PV-Battery System Using a Multi-Functional Converter

This work presents the development and results of a hybrid system (PV-Battery) that will be implemented in the UFJF solar laboratory, Campus Juiz de Fora. The system consists of a photovoltaic panel and an energy storage system based on a battery bank connected/isolated from the mains through a multi-functional converter. The main objective is to maintain the power balance within the system regardless of the consumption profile of the connected load. This goal is achieved by using a power converter functionality divided into three categories: grid conditioning, grid forming, and grid supplying, depending on the function to be performed. Simulation results will be shown, highlighting the multifunctional inverter performance, the control of the energy storage system and the islanding detection technique.
