An Improved Routing Algorithm for Service Function Chain in SDN/NFV Networks

NFV (Network Function Virtualization) can realize the network function on the general X86 platform. Combined with the new SDN (Software Defined Network) network architecture and SFC (Service Function Chains), the 5G core network based on NFV can realize distributed network function on-demand deployment. However, the ever-growing network traffic makes VNF's (Virtual Network Function) type and quantity more and more variously, a good routing algorithm needs to be able to make suitable routes according to flow characteristic. In this paper, to overcome the challenges in solving link cost model, we establish a link cost model to distinguish different types of traffic. In order to avoid the solution be trapped in local optimality and reduce the complexity of the algorithm, we formulate an algorithm based on Viterbi to calculate the routing path. The simulation results show that our algorithm can improve the acceptance rate of SFC flows. Besides, it can increase the network throughput and satisfy SFC flows' demands effectively.
