Performance Analysis of Reduced DC Ripple Converter Fed Sensorless Speed Controlled PMBLDC Motor Drive

This paper presents a reduced DC ripple and improved power quality converter fed sensorless speed control mechanism of a three phase permanent magnet brushless DC motor drive. The motor is driven from near zero to rated speed. The single phase bidirectional voltage source converter ensures to keep the power quality indices viz., Power Factor, Crest Factor, Total Harmonic Distortion of the supply current within standard limit of IEEE 519-2014. The ripple elimination circuit reduces the second-order harmonic ripples in the DC supply and also enables replacement of the bulky DC link capacitor by a capacitor of much smaller size. The proposed system is modeled, simulated, designed and analysed using MATLAB/ SIMULINK for fan type load profile under variable speed and load conditions.
