The Air Influence Study on Flame Characteristics of the Sonic Oil Burner Used for Aviation Fire Test

Oil burner has been widely applied for the aircraft cabin material and power plant fire testing. Currently new technology Sonic burner has been developed and approved for use in interior and fuselage testing. In order to make better understanding of the new Sonic burner, this paper researched the effect of air, including the inlet airflow pressure, inlet airflow temperature and ambient airflow velocity, on the output flame temperature distribution. Both vertical and horizontal mounting of burner were researched. The results revealed that there was a linear relationship between inlet airflow pressure and flame temperature, and inlet airflow temperature showed no significant effect on flame temperature. The increase of ambient airflow velocity, at different angels, was proven to have a negative effect on flame temperature.
