Compact UWB Monopole antenna with WLAN and X-Band satellite filtering Characteristics

This paper describes a compact circular microstrip line fed monopole antenna of dimensions 38.87 × 24.00 × 1.60 mm³ for applications in the Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) range. The −10 dB impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is about 118.89% (3.19-12.54 GHz) producing dual notch bands centered at 5.17 GHz and 7.89 GHz with help of an Archimedean spiral slot and defected ground structure (DGS) providing WLAN (5.20 GHz) and satellite X-band (7.5-8.5 GHz) filtering capabilities. The proposed antenna is simulated and optimized to accomplish desirable return loss, gain, polarization and good radiation patterns. The final antenna provides maximum peak gain of 7.46 dBi and the measured results are in better accordance with the simulated results.
