Probability of Detection for Unambiguous Doppler Frequencies in Pulsed Radars Using the Chinese Remainder Theorem and Subpulse Processing

In modern pulsed Doppler radars, the use of staggered pulse repetition frequencies (PRFs) as inputs for the Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT) is a common practice to solve Doppler frequency ambiguities of high-velocity targets. Another issue concerning these targets is related to the loss in the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) when performing range compression, which is mitigated by the use of subpulse processing. In this work, we derive a closed-form expression for the probability to correctly estimate the ambiguous Doppler frequency, when both CRT and subpulse processing are used.
