The Research of Electric Energy Meters Based on Radio Frequency Identification Technology

The traditional electric energy meters data acquisition mainly relies on power line carrier, infrared and RS485. Data acquisition is influenced by the spatial environment such as communicating distance and obstacles. Especially the power line error or power failure occurs, it's difficult to read the data saved in electric energy meters. This paper provides one kind of electric energy meter with RFID technology achieving data communication. Some related tests were made to verify the RFID electric energy meters are not affected by non-metallic obstacles in a few meters of effective communicating range. The results show that the electric information and other data acquisition of RFID meters are achieved in the case of power and power failure. The overall data acquired successful rate is 98.3% in 2 meters. And the changes of RFID electric energy meters actual relative errors are no more than 0.3%, in line with relevant standards. It provides a new method for the data acquisition of electric energy meters.
