Calibration Method of Laser Detection System With Position Sensitive Detector

Calibration of a laser detection system (LDS) is crucial to the laser-guided weapons. This article proposes a calibration method of the LDS with installation errors. To solve this problem, the error sources of the LDS are analyzed and the error sources are classified into two categories: installation angle errors and installation displacement errors. The main contributions are that a measurement model of the two error sources is deduced and the detailed calibration steps are given with the help of a three-axis turntable. An experimental study on physical calibration is carried out based on the detailed calibration steps. After calibration, the measured values are close to the reference value. This calibration method is valuable for application in actual systems, as it only needs one turntable to calibrate the LDS. Test results verify the validity and feasibility of this method.
