Abstract:

This work presents the development of Home Automation system to increase the comfort and quality of life. In this system a smart phone is used to control and monitor the home appliances using MQTT, Node-RED, IFTTT, Mongoose OS, Android app and Google Assistant. This work uses a NodeMCU based Wi-Fi micro-controller which has been connected to a MQTT broker. Mongoose OS has been made use of. This works uses Node-RED using which flows are created to control the publishing of the data over to a MQTT broker. Google Assistant and an android app are connected to Node-RED flows using IFTTT platform. This system can be controlled through Google Assistant and an android app.

I. Introduction

Smartphone has become an integral part of our daily lives. Automated devices have ability to work with versatility. Present Internet centric world has been facilitating communication among people and things. There is a great demand for automated systems to reduce or eliminate human intervention. By making use of Internet connected smartphones it is possible to control the home appliances from anywhere. This work provides an implementation of home automation using NodeMCU and Mongoose RTOS. NodeMCU is connected to a MQTT broker which is used to send data to the MQTT server. Node-RED is used to create flow by connecting IFTTT applets. These applets are configured using smartphone. Node-RED acts as a bridge connecting MQTT broker to IFTTT. This work aims to develop a smart, safe and inexpensive home automation system to improve the quality of life.
