Highly Sensitive Plasmonic Biosensor on Photonic Crystal Fiber

This paper presents a biosensor based on photonic crystal fiber and surface plasmon resonance. The plasmonic metal and the sample are placed outside the fiber to enhance the sensitivity. The presented biosensor numerically exhibits the maximum wavelength sensitivity of 19,000 nm/RIU and 7000 nm/RIU for
$y$
- and
$x$
- polarization, respectively. In addition, the achieved maximum amplitude sensitivity of the device are 3086.17 RIU

and 2629.81 RIU
⁻¹
for
$y$
- and
$x$
-polarized mode, respectively. Besides that, the wavelength and amplitude resolution of the sensor are obtained as 5.26×10

RIU, respectively. The sensing range of the biosensor is from sample refractive index of 1.33 to 1.41. Due to the high sensitivity and higher resolution, the propounded biosensor may be an auspicious contestant for unspecified biological and biochemical sample identification.
