Joint Tactical Terminal (briefcase): A portable INTEL system providing a comprehensive picture of the digital battlefield to the tactical warfighter

The briefcase Joint Tactical Terminal, JTT(B), was added to the JTT family of terminals as a man-portable turn-key, tactical intelligence (INTEL) system, thereby validating the hardware and software modularity and re-usability of JTT Common Integrated Broadcast Service Modules (CIBS-M). JTT(B) is a software radio that can be re-programmed to readily adapt to changes in the Intelligence Broadcast Service (IBS). JTT(B)'s open systems architecture facilitates network, cryptographic, and functionality upgrades beyond its present multi-channel, multi-mode, multi-network capability. Employing such commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products as a laptop computer, VME digital signal processors (DSPs) and single board computers (SBCs) and Government off-the-shelf (GOTS) TDP software, the JTT(B) leverages rapid commercial technology improvements. The future vision for JTT(B) includes the fusion of JSTARS synthetic aperture radar/moving target indicator (SAR/MTI), tactical data information link-A (TADIL-A) or link-11, and secondary imagery dissemination system (SIDS) data with IBS signals intelligence (SIGINT) data. This will provide both the dismounted and the highly-mobile mounted soldier with a comprehensive, accurate and timely picture of the digital battlefield as seen by "high ground" sensors.
