Investigation of Induction Melting in Graphite Crucibles

Main problems of melting in the induction crucible furnaces with graphite crucibles are presented. These complicated systems were simulated using an electrothermal program ICF ELTA. Calculated electrical, thermal and several hydrodynamics parameters show a real advantage of graphite crucibles over classical non-conductive variant of crucibles for melting of aluminum. The results of preliminary simulations permitted to find the rational variant of crucible and refractory thickness, coil configuration and the power source from an economical point of view.
