Numerical Investigation of Electrodes Segmentation Patterns for Metal-Film Capacitors

Numerical simulation of metal-film capacitors segmented electrodes was conducted. Conventional segmentation with intersegment bridges and novel hybrid segmentation were simulated and compared with all-over metallized electrodes. The calculated characteristics are: surface resistance of the electrodes active area of the electrodes resulting in overall capacitance, current density distribution. It was established that surface resistance of hybrid-segmented metallization is much lower than one of bridge-patterned, and close enough for all-over metallization. The hybrid-segmented electrodes were found to be less overloaded by current.
