Wideband Radar Cross Section Reduction Using 1-bit Coding Metasurface

In this article, a novel 1-blt coding metasurface using the polarization converter to achieve wideband RCS reduction is proposed. The proposed polarization converter and its mirror unit have high polarization conversion efficiency. The reflection phase difference of them is about 180° over a wide frequency range so that they can serve as binary 0 and 1 elements constituting the coding metasurface, respectively. By designing the distribution of two unit cells on the metasurface to realize the diffuse reflection of incident electromagnetic (EM) waves, a wideband RCS reduction can be achieved.
