Simple-structure and Cost-effective IEEE802.11ad Test System-Based Gunn DRO and Fundamental Mixer with Mixed-Domain Oscilloscope

In general, a millimeter-wave instrument is expensive and therefore, it is an entry barrier to small- and medium-sized enterprises working in millimeter-wave industries. Thus, we have developed a simple and cost-effective IEEE802.11ad test system in the 60-GHz band. The test system is based on a downconverter composed of a Gunn oscillator with a dielectric resonator, a broadband fundamental mixer, and a mixed-domain oscilloscope. In terms of performance, the test system showed a total error vector magnitude of 3.1% using the IEEE802.11ad packet in 16-QAM at a center frequency of 64.8 GHz.
