Theoretical Model and Simulations of Different Lengths of Tube for Electromagnetic Forming

Electromagnetic forming is an impulse high-speed forming technology using a pulsed magnetic field to apply Lorentz' forces to workpiece preferably made of a high electrically conductive material without mechanical contact and without a working medium. This technology is used for joining, cutting, shaping and welding of dissimilar metals. Due to tremendously high velocities in comparison to conventional processes, forming restrictions can be extended to several materials. This paper focuses on the effect of varying tube length on magnetic field distribution and displacement. Using simulations by adjusting tube lengths, a variety of different shapes can be obtained. It is essential to examine deformation styles of the workpiece to be capable to forecast the deforming trends of tubes and make advantageous use of electromagnetic forming.
